Its All About The Layering

Its All About The Layering

It sounds simple enough doesn’t it, to lay a table.  Get out your tablecloth, position the side plates and napkins, set the cutlery and place the glasses. All good.  Standard. You’ve done it day in day out for most of your life, no?

But follow our additional steps, one, two, three and four and your table will pop and become a thing to dreams.  A few extra minutes of your time is all it takes to create a memory your guests will never forget.

It’s all about layering, making the table feel luxurious without going too far.  So here they are, the steps that make that oh so vital difference.

Step One: Add placemats on top of your tablecloth.  Too much, I hear you cry.  Why both, rather than either or?  But that’s the skill.  Layer on layer on layer…until it’s perfect.

Step Two: Create an eye-catching centrepiece.  Invest in a set of bud vases and fill them with flowers that echo the colour of your chosen theme.  For something spectacular, experiment with our ‘flower frogs’.  Stack, sprawl or scatter vegetables, fruits and flowers in a carefully curated explosion of colour that your guests will never forget.

Step Three:  Add the flicker of flame:  Candlesticks are cool.  They stop the flat bland look so many tables suffer from.  Alter the height of the candlesticks according to the height of your centrepiece.  Choose ones that are a couple of inches higher.

Step Four:  The finishing touches.  Pick a single colour from your tablecloth and swop out your everyday clear glasses for a coloured tumbler.  Wrap one of our a similarly hued velvet bow napkins around each napkin and hey presto!  You’re done.
